You rely on your Chimney to keep you warm and to channel smoke up and out of your house. Over time your chimney’s outside or inside walls can show some cracks. These cracks are usually caused when the masonry is frozen and then thaws out, which usually happens in the colder climates.

The older your chimney is, the more risk of damage you can have. The top most parts of the chimney are the most exposed and therefore need the most care. Your chimney should be re-pointed or the brick replaced if the damage is severe enough.

Be sure to check your chimney at least once a year for damage. A visual inspection should be done close up on the roof to see if there are any cracks or damage. If you find a problem it should be repaired as soon as possible to avoid any further damage.
